Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026. The standard edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate edition is $99.99. Those two numbers are the most consequential pricing event in AAA games this cycle.

$79.99 is the new AAA ceiling

The industry has spent two years testing whether $69.99 or $79.99 is the standard AAA price. Rockstar just answered for everyone. When the highest-expectation release of the decade ships at $79.99, it sets the reference point every other publisher prices against. Expect $79.99 standard editions to normalize across major 2027 releases, with $99.99 deluxe tiers as the upsell.

The economics behind the number are unusually favorable to Rockstar. GTA V and GTA Online generated revenue for over a decade, so GTA VI carries pricing power no other franchise can match. That makes it a poor template for smaller publishers even as it sets the headline price they will be measured against. A studio without a live-service annuity behind it takes on far more risk at $79.99 than Rockstar does.

What to watch

The signal for investors is not the launch number, it is the attach rate to GTA+ and in-game spending. Take-Two's return on GTA VI depends on the online economy far more than on the $79.99 box. The pre-order bonus structure (a free GTA+ month) is built to seed exactly that. Track the conversion from launch buyers to recurring online spenders, not the opening-week unit count.
